Philatelic Passport
Philately as a hobby is cultivated by
various Postal Administration in India through workshops, Exhibitions and release
of Philatelic ancillaries. Like any other hobby, the key for its sustenance is
maintaining the curiosity and coming up with new innovations. When all the
activities become routine and all products become stale, the hobby loses its
charm. There should be always being a sense of anticipation within the hobbyist.
The expectancy of something new brings a thrill. This feeling of thrill is
essential for people’s interest in the hobby. Philately is no exception to it.
It
is only through innovation that we can reintroduce “Thrill” in this hobby. One
of the ways of doing that is, by introducing new products which will attract
keen philatelist.
Introduction
of new products have their own drawbacks. Acceptance within the philatelic
community may be a problem. Official recognition for such products may take
some time. Establishing such new products requires education, marketing and wider
publicity which incurs substantial expenditure.
A
way out of this is to reintroduce innovations which are already existing but
least highlighted. One of such philatelic product is “Philatelic Passport”.
Philatelic Passports are a common highlight of various
International Exhibitions. This Philatelic Passport is treasured as great souvenirs
and is considered to be prized possessions of immense philatelic value. Somehow
in vacant times they are totally neglected.
The Coimbatore Postal Division shall release a Philatelic
Passport on the theme of Mahatma Gandhi. The Philatelic Passport shall
illustrate the various locations which were visited by Mahatma Gandhi. It will
help people retrace the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi as he undertook these epic
journeys to unify India to fight for its Independence.Regards,
Dr. Sudhir Gopal Jakhere IPoS,
Sr. Superintendent of Post Offices
Coimbatore Division
